Barrack Obama is scheduled to make his first trip to Kenya as a president in July, said the White House on Monday. The American president has visited Ghana in 2009 and Tanzania, Senegal and South Africa in 2011.
He has also traveled to Egypt, and South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s funeral. Obama will visit Ethiopia and Kenya on July 25 and 26, as the keynote speaker at Nairobi’s Global Entrepreneurial Summit, a conference organized by the United Nations which will make it his third key trip to Sub-Saharan Africa.
He came to Kenya when he was a US senator in 2006 and made a trip with his then-fiancée Michelle in 1992. He will meet with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and, it was also revealed on Monday, that he will address an audience in Kasarani Stadium, a modern venue that seats 60,000 people for soccer.
However, the US President’s prospective visit to Kenya has since sparked different speculations of outrage. His fast approaching trip to Kenya continues to be a topic of sharp controversies among Kenyans.
First, of it all was the firm assurance from the student body at the University of Nairobi of mass suicides and urinating on a tree he once planted there if he fails to come to their campus this time. And more recently, he faces the prospect of “ 5000 naked marchers both men and women” marching in opposition to his “open and huge support for homosexuality”.
Based on what White House Spokesperson, Joshua Earnest said last week, President Obama intends to give a formal speech concerning the issue of gay rights during his visit to Kenya. This was reciprocated with an astounding and memorable letter.
The notable letter was sent on Monday by the Republican Liberty Party, a conservative political group identified as one of Kenya’s most vocal anti-LGBT organizations, and it informs the Administration Police Commandant in Nairobi of a “peaceful procession” planned to welcome Obama in Kenya.

The party leader, in the person of Kidala Vincent, gave a run down of the scale and aims of the protest, writing:
“The procession shall be carried out by approximately 5000 naked marchers, both men and women to protest President Barack Obama’s open and aggressive support for Homosexuality. “The party’s main objective is for him to understand the difference between a man and a woman.”
The Punch, Nigerian news website stated, “at least 1,000 commercial sex workers from Nairobi alone have confirmed that they have agreed to play a significant role in the nude protest march”. This follows the party leader’s (Kidala) assurance to hire a “network of prostitutes” to complete the 5000 naked marchers required because for some reasons a few women agreed to participate.
According to Pink News, Kidala attests the sex workers have agreed to take an active part in the protest without any payment due. To him, the prostitutes are afraid of having significantly fewer customers if homosexuality is legalized in Kenya.
