The sister of the late female gospel songster, Angela Chibalonza, goes to her last resting place. She departed this life, found dead in her bathroom, after what police suspect to be from suffocation.
The dead body of Mammy Runiga was found on Saturday night in her house.
The house belonging to Mammy, who was Angela Chibalonza’s manager until the musician’s death in a car crash in 2008, is located in Nairobi’s Nyayo estate Embakasi.
She allegedly collapsed in her bathroom. Her house girl Everlyne Atieno revealed to the media she was somewhat fit, and had even prepared the evening meal for the entire house.
She also stated her boss only complained about having a cold on Friday, and had sent her to the local chemist.
She further said, on arrival without any medication, Mammy told her about her blocked nose and the urgent need to have the medication.
She later found the drugs, and Mammy asked her to boil water for a warm bath and also for drinking.
She also told her house girl to take the water and the jiko used in boiling the water to the bathroom to help heat up the room and to unblock her nose. But the warm bath took longer than necessary.
Her young daughter came knocking at the bathroom door after a long wait to take her own bath. Her already dead mother didn’t respond, and she went calling Atieno.
The tearful Atieno said she couldn’t get Mammy to open the door. Seeking the help of neighbours, the door had later been opened and then they had found Mammy lying lifeless.
They rushed her to hospital where she was confirmed dead. Atieno says she knocked on the door with urgency, but Mammy did not open.
She ran outside and called on neighbours to come and help.
Embakasi OCPD Apollo Wanyonyi who was among the neighbours that rushed Mammy to hospital said they’re still looking into the cause of the death. According to Wanyonyi.
We are yet to know how she died but the family says there was a jiko that was burning in the house. Experts are on the ground gathering more information,.
Mammy Runiga was Angela’s younger sister and her manager until she died in a fatal road accident in 2008.
Mammy is survived by her husband, who was not around at the time of her death, and three children.
