Taita Taveta Women Representative, Joyce Wanjala Lay, today advised women to prevent their husband from enjoying their conjugal rights if they do not get voter’s cards.
She made this shocking request while issuing a statement to a listening crowd at Oginga Odinga University during Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s 22nd anniversary commemoration.
Joyce Lay also noted that everyone needs to be a partaker in this, as long as they are eligible (over the age of 18 years). He paid particular attention to men, asking each of them to obtain a voter’s card.
The stunning politician also made known the roles women have to play in the upcoming election, urging them to play an active role, making sure their men participate in the process.
Wamama nataka kuwambia hivi, mume wako akikataa kwenda kuchukua kadi ya kura mfungie miguu usikubali.” (Women., if your husband refuses to take voters card, do not let him touch you.)
This statement backed CORD leader’s campaign to rally youth registration for the 2017 general election.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga had told leaders to spearhead the mobilization and voter registration before the polls.
It is a chance to register as voters and ensure all our youth are sensitized to participate in the 2017 election, a role which CORD leaders must remain committed to.
Joyce Wanjala Lay rose to national fame when she publicly accused an MP of sexual harassment during a foreign trip in Tokyo in March 2014.
The outspoken woman has impacted many lives with her several insightful and public recommendations for women, including advocating for IVF, which will undoubtedly go a long way in helping thousands of Kenyan women become mothers someday.
