Pop Star Ed Sheeran is set to make a guest appearance on the seventh season of HBO’s Game of Thrones according to the show’s producers.
David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the producers, confirmed Ed Sheeran’s cameo appearance in the show at the SXSW film festival in Texas.
They revealed that they have been pursuing the shape of you singer for awhile and also suggested that it was made as a surprise for Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark in the show because she’s a big fan of the singer.
”For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,” Benioff told the SXSW audience.
He, however, failed to reveal any more details regarding the singer-songwriter’s involvement.
Ed went ahead to confirm the reports via twitter by tweeting “guess the cat’s out the bag” and tagging a Vanity Fair post on why he agreed to the role.
This won’t be Ed Sheeran’s first on-screen work. The 26-year-old has had a recurring role on FX’s The Bastard Executioner in 2015. He also made a cameo appearance in last year’s Bridget Jones’ Baby with Renée Zellweger.
He will also be following a number of other musicians who have made cameo appearances on the show including Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Ros and some members of Coldplay.
With no further information having been released, Game of Thrones and Ed Sheeran lovers might be disappointed if the UK singer is not recognizable on screen. Unlike Sigur Ros and Of Monsters and Men, he might also not be performing any of his tracks.
Season 7 of Game of Thrones is scheduled to be released in July and will consist of only seven episodes being its shortest ever season. The eighth and final season will even be shorter with only six episodes set to detail how TV’s most thrilling show will end.
