Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is embroiled in a bitter spat with Deputy President William Ruto after the two made comments about each other on the campaign trail in the coast region.
DP Ruto attacked the Mombasa governor on his tour of the Coast region, an ODM stronghold under Joho’s stewardship.
Ruto labeled Joho an ”academic dwarf” as he publicized the Jubilee Party and what its administration has done over the past few years ahead of next year’s election.
In retaliation, Joho tore into Ruto calling him a land grabber and adding that he was waiting for post-election violence so he could grab people’s land.
Joho’s statement comes off the fact that the deputy president was found guilty of grabbing land in Turbo, Uasin Gishu, after the last post-election violence.
Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s statement has not gone down well with a section of North Rift youths. The Kerio Youths Association is demanding that Governor Joho apologizes for his comments or face serious consequences.
The group’s chairman Joel Kimaiyo said:
It is sad that the Governor can utter such outrageous statements to tarnish the image of the DP. This is nonsense… We are not going to allow this anymore.
”It is sad that the Governor can utter such outrageous statements to tarnish the image of the DP. This is nonsense. We are not going to allow this anymore.
”We want the Governor to tell us of the land he claims Ruto has grabbed. We are not taking this matter lightly.”
The Kerio Youth Association chairman went on to reiterate that Ruto and Joho were not at the same level, making his ”academic dwarf” comment very reasonable.
”Joho should know he is not in the same league as Ruto, as far as politics is concerned. Ruto is the Deputy President and Joho is a Governor in charge of a county,” Kimaiyo said.
DP Ruto and Governor Ali Hassan Joho both have plans to contest for the presidency in 2022. The war of words between the pair will not be ending anytime soon as Jubilee and ODM try to advance their agendas.
