Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has come under fire from the elders of her village for something you might deem archaic.
Elders in her village, Seme, are offended because she wore a short dress and climbed a tree in front of her father.
The Hollywood star currently put her country and hometown Kisumu on the map after she took Vogue magazine to her village.
She graced the magazine’s October Issue’s cover and provided stunning photos with backdrops of a farm and rocks.
The magazine put together a video to publicize the shoot, giving viewers a behind the scene look of what happened during the time in Kisumu.
A portion of the video sees Lupita go into the plantation with her dad in search of guava fruits. She proceeded to climb the tree exclaiming to the cameras ”Don’t show my underwear” as her father looked on closely.
The elders say the 12 Years a Slave actress exposed herself to her father, which is a taboo according to their traditions.
A section of Lupita Nyong’o’s village elders are calling for the actress to participate in a cleansing ceremony in order to sanctify her of the abomination.
The video also features Lupita getting lessons from her mother in the kitchen on how to cook.
Lupita openly admitted she did not know how to cook Ugali, Kenya’s staple dish. She talked about the backlash she received online after she admitted it before her mother gave her lessons.
Watch the video below and be the judge. Are Lupita Nyong’o’s village elders trying to subject the Hollywood royalty to archaic rules or did the actress commit this abomination.
