Video: Michelle Obama Raps With Missy Elliott In ‘Carpool Karaoke’

Arguably the coolest in the world, First Lady Michelle Obama decided to take sometime off from her busy schedule on Wednesday night, when she headed for a quick spin with James Corden on The Late Late Show; Carpool Karaoke.

In the show, she performed an instant-classic round of Carpool Karaoke before an unexpected guest joined her at the end, Missy Elliott. It’s official: we, the people, have the most viral First Lady ever.

Michelle Obama and Corden began the fun night by jamming to one of her favorite artists, Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”

Obama confessed that it has been ages when she last rocked out in a car, which makes the occasion (nearly) as special for her as it is for all of us.

She also revealed something fun; her Secret Service code name is “Renaissance,” and Barack’s is “Renegade.”

Moments later, the focus drifted to girl-power jams: first, Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”—which, we should all note, Obama knows by heart, complete with hand-waving choreography.

“This Is for My Girls,” a song Obama herself pulled together for her Let Girls Learn initiative with female icons like Missy Elliott—who, what do you know, just happened to make an appearance for her rap break.

The track has been serving as the anthem for the First Lady’s Let Girls Learn initiative.

The program aims to help the “62 million girls worldwide who aren’t in school for different reasons,” she said. “So much could be corrected if girls were educated and had power over their lives.”

Mrs. Obama enlisted Missy Elliott, Kelly Rowland and more to sing on “This Is For My Girls.” Missy materialized in the back of Corden’s vehicle just in time to rap her verse: “Even when the times get rough we get up/ Treat your life like a stage, you go ‘head and tear it up.” “We got our girl power squad,” Mrs. Obama said.

As Michelle noted, it seems a new powerhouse squad is forming—a “girl-power squad.”
