In his final days as US President, Obama served as groomsman in the White House staffer’s wedding held in Florida.
US outgoing president Barack Obama is set to have more free time eight days from now. He will be able to watch his favorite sports – baseball – and work on his long-running Spider-Man comic book collection and wear his trademark “mom jeans” in peace.
However, Barack Obama made time during his final days as president to attend his longtime staffer’s wedding and serve as a groomsman.
Marvin Nicholson, the White House trip director, and the president’s personal aide married the love of his life on Saturday, hours after the star-studded farewell bash thrown for Mr. Obama ended.
Barack Obama arrived at Jacksonville airport in time for the wedding after his party finished at 4 am.
Mr. Nicholson married Helen Pajcic, who worked on Obama’s 2008 campaign and is the daughter of longtime Democratic fundraiser Steve Pajcic.
Mr. Nicholson and Helen Pajcic got married in a private ceremony in Jacksonville at the One Ocean Resort and Spa.
Although Michelle Obama did not accompany her husband, Secretary of State John Kerry also attended the wedding, acting as the officiant for the marriage ceremony.
Mr. Obama used his final address as President in Chicago on Tuesday to warn of the dangers of anti-immigrant sentiment, economic inequality and taking democracy for granted. He was moved to tears as he paid tribute to his wife Michelle during his farewell speech.
“You took on a role you didn’t ask for and made it your own with grace and grit and style and good humour.
“You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody. And a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model.”
Many people saw what Obama did, Obama served as groomsman, something rare for a President and they took to twitter to applaud the outgoing president.
