In what may be described as a protest by some angry group, irked parents of pupils at Cheplaskei Primary School in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya, stormed the institution on Tuesday over mass pregnancies.
The parents are demanding for the immediate sack of the head teacher, who they accused of deliberately getting rid of morality in the school.
According to the furious parents, the head teacher accepts immorality at the school especially between teachers and pupils.
This was after 12 schoolgirls tested positive to pregnancy – another case of mass pregnancy in the country which accuse male teachers as the prime suspects. The parents assert that some of the teachers impregnate the innocent naive girls.
They demand that the teachers who took advantage of the girls were only being covered by the school authority who might not want to get the image of the school tarnished.
The angry parents stormed the principal’s office, and then took a shocking step by having it locked with their own padlock. Shortly afterwards, they headed to confront the teachers in full view of pupils.
An incensed parent told media that:
Girls have been dropping out in Standard 6 and 7. The dorms have become maternity.
This is not the first case of mass pregnancy of schoolgirls in the east African country.
In 2015, 27 girls at Moi Kaptama Girls High school and another 13 from Chemoge secondary school, were reportedly pregnant, with teachers being implicated.
No teacher has yet been pinpointed but the parents demand for the investigation and proportional punishment to be dished out to the culprits.
In cases like this, we cannot help wondering why inappropriate affairs like this have to be allowed to get to pregnancy – or some other kind of complications – before witnesses begin to speak up.
