A photograph of Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Ny’ongo swallowed up by teargas during CORD demonstration against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has become the internet big hit as many social media users deliberate on it.

In the photos, Mr Nyong’o was seen apparently gasping for air as anti-riot police unleashed heavy teargas at the protesters.

The senator, in an assumed bid to neutralise the irritation in his eyes, was seen washing his face with water. Later, the Kisumu Senator was brought to safety by a well-built man, supposedly his bodyguard, whose cheeks didn’t run short of streaks of tears.

CORD co-principals Raila, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula with their supporters on Monday marched to IEBC offices as promised to give the commissioners a boot.

While still on the way, the opposition leaders urged their supporters to observe a moment of silence for Juma Jacob – a businessman who was gunned down in assassination style on Friday. Raila, while presided over the event, again, stressed the claim that police are his prime suspects in the murder of his big supporter to a mammoth crowd of anti-IEBC protesters on Monday.

Raila also accused the high-profile in the country, stating that they used the police to murder his friend, Juma, as the shootings were reportedly done by experts

After the Opposition heads concluded their speeches outside the commission’s offices, protesters broke into chaos and reportedly started hurling stones at security officers who had been deployed in large numbers.

The demonstrations, which were peaceful at first, ended with the crowd being dispersed after trying to access the Aniversary Towers. And that’s how the pictures of Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Ny’ongo that were shared came about.
