Virgin group founder Sir Richard Branson has described Donald Trump as ”an embarrassment for the world”.
The billionaire businessman made his opinion known about the American real estate billionaire turned president on NewsHub, a New Zealand radio station during a recent visit to the country.
Branson said the president’s first two months in office was ‘disastrous’ and went on to predict that he would only last a maximum of one term in office.
“I’ve found it rather an embarrassment for the world to have an individual running America who does not speak the truth all the time, who tries to, instead of opening borders to immigrants, has made it really difficult to get into America, and the list goes on and on and on.”
”The first days in office have been so disastrous that I think the chances of it lasting more than one term are extremely unlikely and I think that’s the only saving grace about the way he’s behaving at the moment.”
Richard Branson continued his rant by saying Trump is the one businessperson he knows who is certainly not fit to be running a great country like America. He pointed out possible great business leaders such as Michael Bloomberg who would have made a great president of America.
Richard Branson and Trump’s Previous Encounter
Branson had earlier on before the election warned of the potential dangers of a Trump presidency in a blog post.
He wrote that the former Apprentice show host was ”vindictive” in regards to a personal encounter of the two when he was invited by Mr. Trump for lunch several years ago when they had not met before.
”Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked a number of people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help.”
”He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people. He didn’t speak about anything else and I found it very bizarre.”
The 66-year-old wrote that he left the lunch feeling disturbed and saddened by what he had heard, adding that the lunch meeting contributed to him backing Hillary Clinton in the election.
”What concerns me most, based upon my personal experiences with Donald Trump, is his vindictive streak, which could be so dangerous if he got into the White House. For somebody who is running to be the leader of the free world to be so wrapped up in himself, rather than concerned with global issues, is very worrying.”
It is no secret Richard Branson, who is a Brit, is a supporter of the Democratic Party after having hosted Barack Obama and his wife Michelle on his private Caribbean island days after his term of office expired.
The businessman posted pictures of the pair kite-surfing on his blog.
