Cristiano Ronaldo limped out of the field during Euro 2016 Cup final and was made to watch Portugal’s Euro 2016 success from the sidelines .
It became Nani’s obligation to see them to glory at the Parc des Princes as they edged out hosts France thanks to Eder’s extra-time winner.
However, before then Ronaldo had already played a major role in getting Portugal to the final after contributing three goals and the same number of assists.
The Real Madrid star came second – behind Antoine Griezmann who scored six times for France – in the race to become the highest goal scorer at Euro 2016 and obviously, Ronaldo is not interested in the runner-up award.
The Real Madrid superstar was awarded the Silver Boot for his exploits, but he didn’t have the award for long before handing it over to his teammate Nani.
He gave it to fellow former Manchester United star Nani, because he led the side after he went off injured in the final against France.
Valencia winger Nani took to social media after Portugal’s 1-0 extra-time win over France in the final of the showpiece tournament to share his joy after Ronaldo gave him the award as a “gift”.
Nani wrote on his Instagram: “More than a captain you’re a champion! Thanks for the gift! Let’s go Portugal we are the Champions!”
Speaking after the game on Sunday evening Ronaldo revealed just how much finally achieving success with his national team meant to him.
Nani also scored three goals in the tournament, but only managed one assist to miss out on winning the second-place prize; Silver Boot Award.
