Rosemary Odinga, the daughter of the opposition leader and Kenya’s second Prime Minister Mr. Raila Odinga, has declared an interest in politics.
Rosemary Odinga made this declaration last week as she declared the interest in representing Kibra constituency in the parliament. She made this declaration when she appeared in public during a political rally in Kibra county, in a move seen by many as succeeding the legacy of her father.
Reports have it that about eight members from Odinga’s family have declared interests in contesting for various positions with some running against Raila Odinga’s allies in the forthcoming elections.
Rosemary’s father, Mr. Raila, is fighting to be the next president of Kenya under ODM party and his elder brother Oburu Odinga, a nominated MP is also contesting for Bondo parliamentary seat.
Her sister Ruth Odinga, former deputy governor of Kisumu county, is determined to vie for the Kisumu’s governor seat currently occupied by Mr. Jack Ranjuma.
Anxiety has been growing in the Orange Democratic movements party as the party leader Mr. Raila Odinga and his family indicated interest in so many political seats and this may cause problems in the ODM party because some of the seats these people has indicated interest on have some Raila’s allies also contesting for them.
Moreover, a source disclosed that the last born in Raila Odinga’s family, Ms. Winnie Odinga, has also declared interest in being nominated in the National Assembly to represent the interest of the youths.
Additionally, in Siaya county, Mr. Carrey Rege Raila’s cousin has joined the race for the county’s governor’s seat, while former Kenyan ambassador to the United States of America Elkana Odembo, a brother-in-law to Mr. Raila is also interested in the senator’s seat of the county.
Even though he has carved a political niche for himself Gen. MP Jakoyo Midiwo, a cousin to Mr. Raila Odinga will be defending his seat.
