A man suspected to be part of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group was been shot dead outside the heavily guarded US embassy in Gigiri, Nairobi on Thursday.
The embassy including its consular section will remain closed today following the shooting incident.
A statement posted on the embassy’s website says the consular will resume business on October 31. Emergency services for US citizens will, however, be available.

The suspect looked to try and force his way into the embassy when he was blocked by the Kenyan officer at the gate. He then took out a knife hidden in his clothes and stabbed the officer in the head and chest.
The man was then shot twice and the GSU officer rushed to the hospital soon afterward.
The body of the attacker and his weapon lay on the scene for a while in photos as officers looked to take notes.
Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno confirmed the incident and adding that the attacker is a male of Somali origin.
”The officer fired back in self-defense and managed to kill (the attacker). My officer is in hospital in a stable condition. The victim died on the spot,” Otieno told reporters.
