While most cases of unassisted childbirth (UC) are intentional, a woman delivers her own baby unexpectedly without the assistance of a medical or professional birth attendant. She had it all by herself while standing at a hospital entrance.
Jessica Stubbins, from Scunthorpe got to the hospital in time but gave birth in less than a minute as her husband looked for a space in the hospital car park.
The moment was captured on the hospital’s CCTV camera. The awe-inspiring footage shows mum giving birth in hospital doors. She didn’t even sit down and was so casual about it.
Describing the moment her baby slipped out, Jessica Stubbins said she had just walked through the first set of doors when she felt a sharp pain.
Looking down, her daughter, Lucy had arrived.
She said the baby was coming and there was no stopping her, there was no time to sit down.’
When the baby was finally out, the nurses arrived and wrapped Lucy in a hoodie before taking the family inside.
In an interview during Good Morning Britain, the woman’s husband Tom, a butcher said his wife, Jessica exclaimed: ‘It’s a girl, it’s a girl! I’m sorry, I’m sorry!’
He remembered that she felt really guilty because he missed the moment. Tom explained that while she was apologizing, to him, he was just absolutely dumbfounded and didn’t know what was happening.
According to Dailymail, the two were also interviewed on ITV with Lucy (the child) and her big sister Penny. During the talk show, Jessica told the host that she told her husband he best drop her off at the door before finding a suitable place to park.
As she tried to shut the car door, she knew then that her baby was on the way.
Her husband, who had not seen the footage before, joked: ‘It was only about a hundred feet away and I still missed it.’
‘But by the time I made it Jessica was still stooped over but when I looked she had little Lucy in her arm, he said.
Jessica, who had already visited Scunthorpe General Hospital earlier that day, said she had realised her baby was on the way just after midnight.
One nurse, Gemma Hoeft, recalled how she had seen Jessica struggling in the hospital entrance. ‘I thought, That girl’s not going to make it’, she said.
