A man has beaten a unique and amazing record in Brazil as he emerges the new world’s oldest man – though not yet official.
Social security workers in Acre located in the north of Brazil stirred a combination of excitement and outrage when they published photos of OAP Joao Coelho de Souza alongside a birth certificate dated March 10 1884. Based on the published birth certificate, the Brazilian was born in the city of Meruoca in Ceara almost 2,000 miles to the east of Acre.
According to the civil servants in Brazil, a new world’s oldest man has been found living in a village called Estirao do Alcantara, a 30-minute boat ride away from Sena Madureira, a municipality in the centre of the state of Acre with his 69-year-old wife and a granddaughter aged 16. Mathematically, the 131-year-old is 62 years older than his wife whom he fathered three children with.
The photo caused an uproar when Kennedy Afonso, a colleague of a social security worker who made a routine visit to confirm he was still alive and therefore eligible for his pension shared it on Facebook. Afonso urged the government to make necessary investigation to confirm the discovery and to register Joao for the Guinness Book of Records.
Kennedy Afonso posted photos of Joao and his birth certificate taken by a colleague on his Facebook on January 11 and said:
“I’ve asked one of his children if anyone’s interviewed him and to my astonishment no-one has yet.
The question ‘where are our historians’ immediately springs to mind. According to a son he is still quite lucid and has a great story to tell. I present to you Jose Coelho de Souza, who came to Acre when he was 11. “I appeal to the state government and the local government in Sena Madureira to determine with the competent bodies whether this is true so they can claim a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the oldest man on the Earth. And he’s from our region.”
What The Daughter Of The World’s Oldest Man Has To Say
His daughter Cirlene Souza according to reports is 30-years-old which goes to say that Joao was 101 when she was born, if his age is confirmed.
Cirlene Souza revealed that her dad has days when he is lucid but others when he doesn’t even recognise his children. She opened up that she was very small when he moved to work in Acre extracting rubber and that the old man has been with her mum for more than 40 years.
She also responded to doubts about her dad’s age, saying “You hear everything, people that criticise and say it’s a lie and others that admire the fact someone can live so long.
She added that it often time offends her that everything is documented and the documents have already been examined by experts to see if they’d been forged and nothing out of normal was seen.
Cirlenealso disclosed that Joao depends on others for everything as he suffered a stroke six years ago but still feeds three times a day. She said her dad loves to munch on rice, fish and meat more often than not and the only thing he rejects eating is a local bean-based dish called feijao.
For the record, the Guinness Book of Records recognises 112-year-old Yasutaro Koide from Japan as the oldest person alive, naming Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died at aged 122 in 1997 as the world’s longest living person.
Let us bring to mind the age difference between the old man and his wife despite his feat. Remember we shared a story about a 26-year-old Ugandan artist Guvnor who is happily married to his 68-year-old Swedish lover, Mona Lisa Larssonand, which shocked most of us, we told you that love conquers all especially for the fact that it is rare for African men to get down with a woman significantly older than they are. Love has won again for this people. This story serves as a better evidence to those who didn’t believe that love surpasses all situations that indeed it does.
