At least five security guards died on Wednesday night after an attack that also left four others injured in Machakos County. The Machakos attack is reported to have occured sometime around ten pm.
According to reports, unknown attackers ambushed Mitaboni market, armed with axes and pangas, killing and injuring security men. The injured guards were rushed to Makueni Level 5 Hospital.
They are said to have used crude weapons including axes and pangas to hack the guards, killing three on the spot.
It is alleged that the guards were killed as they tried to stop a robbery at one of the shops in Mitaboni market, Machakos County. The fourth victim is said to have died at Kathiani Level 4 Hospital, with the fifth man passing away minutes later while still being taken to the Makueni District Hospital.
As a consequence, business has been paralysed in Mitaboni market, Machakos County, with angry residents taking to the streets on Thursday morning to protest against the attack at the trading centre the previous night.
Roads are blocked, with tires burning on each road, while the mob called on the police to take action and fish out the killers in as little a time as possible. Policemen were eventually forced to shoot in the air to disperse the rioting residents.
