A light aircraft carrying journalists on Wednesday crashed a few moments after take off from Wilson Airport, Nairobi.
The Cesna plane was on its way to Kabarak with three Citizen TV journalists; two reporters and a cameraman to cover a rally by the National Super Alliance (NASA) when it crashed near the National Housing Corporation Houses along the Southern Bypass in Kibera.
Mauritius Oduor, Sam Ogina of Citizen TV and Joseph Njane of Radio Citizen have been identified as the passengers onboard the aircraft.
National Police Airwing Commandant Rodgers Mbithi confirmed the victims had been rescued. They sustained major injuries but are in stable condition and have been rushed to Nairobi West Hospital.
The plane was badly damaged.
Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga has meanwhile conveyed his sympathy to those injured following the accident.
“On behalf of NASA and myself, I extend deep sympathy, best wishes, and prayers for quick recovery,” said Mr. Odinga.
“We thank God for saving their lives.”
He went on to assure the reporters, the Kenyan media fraternity and the Royal Media family in particular that they have his support.
“It is my hope and prayer that we will see Oduor, Ogina and Njane back on the campaign trail before Election Day,” he added.
