Recently surfaced photos and videos of Barack Obama kite surfing only proves that America has lost one of the coolest presidents ever.
The former leader of the free world headed to Richard Branson’s private and luxurious Necker Island in the Caribbean to unwind with his wife, Michelle.
The couple spent several days on the island with the Virgin founder as they attempted to get away from the stresses of running the world’s biggest government.
The former first couple spent their first week out of office in Palm Springs, California, as a guest of the Spanish ambassador.
They then left California for the British Virgin Islands on billionaire Richard Branson’s private jet.
Barack was spotted wearing a flipped-back baseball cap with dark shades as he slowly walked alongside Michelle who was putting on a blue top with a white throw over and a fedora hat.
The couple smiled and waved to passer-bys as they soaked in the views of the picturesque island.
Richard Branson in a blog post talked about how it was an honor to be able to invite and host Barack and Michelle. He said one of the first stories Barack told him was how he used to surf.
”One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became President, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii.”
”When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: ‘This will be the last time you surf for eight years.’ For the next eight years, he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.”
Branson wrote that he took the opportunity to offer the former president a chance to learn kitesurfing, which Barack took up.
Obama Kite Surfing Like A Pro
The pleasant offer soon turned to a challenge as Branson proposed that the two compete. Since Branson was a seasoned kite-surfer, he proposed that Obama would learn kite-surfing while he would take up kite-surfing with a foil board and then compete on the last day to see who could stay up the longest.
Branson wrote that Barack learned how to kite-surf for two days straight, picking up the basics and flying a kite as if he was going back to being a child.
”Barack and I both fell many times, but we kept trying again and again and made progress over the days. We were neck and neck until the last run on the last day, when I got up on the foilboard and screamed along for over 50 meters, three feet above the water.”
”I was feeling very pleased with myself, only to look over and see Barack go 100 meters on his kiteboard! I had to doff my cap to him and celebrate his victory,” Branson wrote.
The billionaire then said he could not begrudge Barack after all he had done for the world during his time in office.
He, however, said he would be going back into the water to practice for the next challenge ending his post with ”may the best (British) man win!”
Stories of Obama kite surfing will soon turn distant memory as Barack and Michelle have already headed back to Washington.
The couple chose to stay in the capital until their youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school. They will be drowned with news of the decisions of the Trump administration which Barack promised to be a critic of.
