Raila Odinga was on Sunday heavily booed as he was campaigning for Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga.
Angry residents in the county heckled the NASA presidential candidate at his backyard in front of the other NASA principals.
Raila asked his supporters to vote for all his party’s candidates, using the six-piece voting system during the forthcoming elections. The six-piece voting system is where voters vote for President, Governor, Senator, Women Rep, Member of National Assembly and Member of County Assembly from one party.
“Do not embarrass me, ensure that our team comprising of Governor, Senator, Women representative, MP, and MCA are one team,” said Raila to the crowd.
His comments were, however, met with huge disapproval as the masses waved their hands and booed him as they disapprove Gov. Rasanga.
Rasanga clinched the ODM primaries ticket for re-election but his rival Nicholas Gumbo rejected the results, saying they were not transparent. Rasanga garnered 143,446 votes while Gumbo got 87,467.
Raila was accompanied by his fellow NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula. Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and Siaya Senator James Orengo were also present for Mr. Odinga’s embarrassing moment.
It also is not the first time the Presidential hopeful had been jeered in his backyard when campaigning for Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga under the guise of the six-piece voting pattern.
In Bondo town last month, the governor was jeered and booed by a very angry crowd who forced him to cut short his speech.
The same crowd, however, showed a soft spot for Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo who is seeking to oust Rasanga.
“If we have an ODM governor here in Siaya, it will be easy for me to source for resources and channel it down to our counties unlike where there is an independent governor,” Raila continued in his six-piece voting speech.
“We do not want Madoadoa in Siaya County,” he added.
Musalia Mudavadi spoke after Raila reminding them that he and other NASA members shelved their presidential ambition for their brother, Raila Odinga. He then pleaded that Raila should not be disappointed by the mass who want to favor an independent over NASA candidates.
“You need to show a good example to “Baba too” by voting his preferred way, who are you not to shelve your ambitions if we did the same?” asked Mudavadi.
Kalonzo, Joho, and Rasanga also addressed the crowd.
