Doctors successfully carried out a surgical operation on a Colombian woman who swallowed of $7,000 (Sh700,000) during a fight with her husband.
The 30-year-old Colombian woman’ reportedly swallowed the huge sum in an attempt to prevent her husband’s reach to the cash.
According to doctors who were able to surgically remove the cash from the woman’s intestine, the money was swallowed in rolls of $100 bills.
Doctors removed 57 $100 bills from her intestine while the rest were passed through her colon.
Speaking to a local news channel, the 30-year-old Colombian woman whose name is Sandra Milena Almeida said she saved up the money for a holiday with her husband after having sold several electrical household items.
But, after finding out that her husband cheated on her, and after her husband discovered the huge sum hidden at a corner in their house, she gulped down the rolls of $100 in a fit of rage with the intention of hiding the money from her cheating husband who already had demanded half of it.
Almeida was quickly rushed to the hospital a day after she complained of a severe stomach pain. She didn’t tell doctors about the money, but X-rays showed the wads of cash that were blocking up her intestine.
The chief surgeon, Juan Pablo Serrano told the media that he initially thought that Almeida has taken down drugs as the images resembled bags of narcotics, but his suspicions turned out wrong after they discovered the rolls of cash in her stomach.
“The dollar notes were washed and are in good condition, but the rest of the money was lost because of the gastric fluids,” Serrano told Colombia’s Radio Caracol
“We took the patient into surgery for two procedures to clear the blockage, on her stomach and her intestine,” he added.
Dr. Serrano also said the cash has been given to the police, and a judge will decide how the cash will be split between the couple. Almeida has, on the other hand, recovered from the surgery and has been released from the hospital.
