United States rapper B.o.B., a propagator of the flat earth theory, is raising funds to launch satellites into space to find evidence backing his claim.
The 28-year-old Atlanta based rapper, whose real name is Bobby Ray Simmons Jr, believes that the Earth is not spherical as widely believed, but in fact, a disc.
Flat earth theory believers say that the earth is a flat disc protected by an invisible barrier called “the firmament,” a dome-like feature that is referenced in the Old Testament.
Being one of the most vocal and popular proponents of the Flat Earth theory, B.o.B is seeking to use his fame to raise $200,000 on the crowd-funding website, GoFundMe where he refers to himself as “Flat Earth Bob”, to put the debate to rest.
“I’m starting this GoFundMe because I would like to send one, if not multiple satellites, as far into space as I can, or into orbit as I can, to find the curve,” he said in a video on the crowd-funding website.
“I’m looking for the curve,” he added.
The curve he is making reference to in his statement is a recurring theme by Flat Earth theory conspirators that says if the Earth was actually round, then the curvature of the Earth would be more visible to the naked eye.
A few people have donated to the rapper’s cause, expressing support for what he aims to achieve.
“When/if you do make sure you let me know. I’ve been trying to tell folks that there is no curve, therefore the Earth is not a globe,” wrote one person who donated $20.
Another person who was more skeptical wrote: “Here’s $5 to prove yourself wrong.”
He has so far raised $1,726, as the campaign is trending on the GoFundMe site.
