Raila Odinga, NASA’s presidential candidate has promised to be the Joseph that will take Kenya to Canaan.
The former Kenyan prime minister made the statement alongside Nasa principals – Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang’ula and Isaac Ruto – at Uhuru Park on Thursday.
“I am a first among equals. I will be the Joshua that will take you to Canaan. And when I am there, my job here will be done,” said Mr. Odinga as he also swore to be a transitional one-term president.
Raila Odinga’s statement received massive cheers from supporters but seems to have not been received well by Ukambani leaders.
Leaders from the region led by Kitui West MP, Francis Nyenze, and Kitui Senator, David Musila, say that Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, who is to be Raila’s running mate, got a raw deal.
According to Nyenze, Kalonzo was shortchanged in the last minute and the lineup was reached without proper consultations.
“It came as a shocker. Why did Kalonzo agree to be a running mate when all along he had told us he will not play second fiddle to anybody?” said Nyenze.
“We told our people that Kalonzo will be the flag bearer, and because of this change we have to sit and agree and if NASA calls for a meeting we will not attend,” he added.
Nyenze went on to call on the Wiper party leader to talk to them before they take any other action.
“We need to talk and decide on a way forward. We cannot assume that our people will follow the instructions. They have to know why they should vote for NASA.” he said. “If I don’t fight for the Kamba nation who will?”
If NASA wins the election, the proposed arrangement will have ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi as the Premier Cabinet Secretary in charge of the state department of internal security and administration of the national government.
Under the Premier CS, there will be two powerful deputies of equal rank. Rutto will be in charge of the State Department of Devolution and Planning while Wetang’ula of Ford Kenya party will be the deputy in charge of Public Service.
