Governor Rutto And MCA Fight Over Microphone

For one group of audience at a baraza held on Wednesday, March 30 in Sotik, an afternoon meant to be spent listening to a well-articulated address suddenly turned into a thrilling show of near fight. This one was between Governor Rutto and MCA.

The residents who had gathered together on Wednesday to hear a public speech, saw rather a dramatic microphone struggle that degenerated into a near fight as result of an intrusion and wrongly timed speech.

It started the moment John Ng’etich while speaking to the audience went into war of words against Governor Isaac Rutto, during which the Bomet governor tried to seize a microphone from the Kipsonoi member of county assembly (MCA) John Ngetich.

Ng’etich, in his speech urged locals to question the Bomet Governor about the developments which the area has seen, during Governor Rutto’s visit to the area.

The MCA justified this, saying that it was only wise to demand for explanations since they needed to be told the reason development projects are delayed in the Ward.

Stating that the county had failed the Ward and has not fulfilled its numerous assurance to the area, the MCA noted that all questions will be best taken by Rutto.

This didn’t not sit well with the governor, who got irked by the act, accusing Ng’etich’s speech as a diversionery measure designated to change the theme of the occasion as well as bring politics into a serious matter.

Crowds moved close to watch the two leaders scrambling over a microphone, turning the incident more chaotic. When it seems the microphone couldn’t be grabbed, Rutto walked away without addressing the residents.

Speaking to the press through his Communications director Bii Samoei, Rutto said he intentionally planned the event to hear the people’s plight but Ng’etich stole the moment and turned it into a campaign.

In response, Ng’etich found fault with the unusual turn of event. He later blamed the county chief for walking out on people he is supposed to be accountable to.

According to him:

“It is quite unfortunate for the Governor to stoop so low as to portray such ugly acts in public,”

“He grabbed the microphone denying residents who voted for him a chance to question him on some developmental issues.”
