A Dagoretti police officer reported that there had been a shooting in the area. Policemen who went to the scene found Mercedes Benz KAL 007W of which its driver’s door had several bullet holes and its window was shattered. They also found identification documents in his car, showing the identity of the victim. Two mobile phones, Sh6300 and 500 US dollars, were also found in the car with some documents that showed Juma was director of Cortec mining. Police say the attackers probably didn’t take away any of the business man’s belongings.

The vehicle was taken to Karen police station and investigations launched to establish the motive of the killing. Juma was a strong critic of the ruling party. He had been involved in several high-profile legal cases against the government over failed business deals. He also took the government to court in 2015 for revoking his company’s mining licence, saying this was because he had refused to pay an $800,000 bribe. The High Court dismissed the case and Mr Juma appealed.

He also gave details of NYS scandal and also has been closely following bribery allegations in the Judiciary. He has since been active in criticizing the Jubilee administration, targeting DP William Ruto and his allies directly. Before his death, Mr. Juma who was the Managing Director of Erad Supplies – a company that had sued National Cereals and Produce Board over a contract for delivery of 40,000 tonnes of maize – has made several claims stating that his life has been stamped to be taken away.

Mr Juma had warned several months ago that there was a plot to kill him because of his outspoken views. On one of his post on December 10, 2016, Mr. Juma made his first claim on attempt on his life when he alleged that a senior government official was obsessed with killing him.

He said a meeting had been held the previous week, and 7 days later he proclaimed that he had reached the pinnacle of his life and was therefore not afraid of death.

Juma also feared for his life when a state house blogger, Dennis Itumbi, targeted him in one of his blog reports, to which Juma wrote a well worded piece in response, rebuffing the claims of the report as ‘unfounded.’
