French police have arrested sixteen people in connection with last October’s armed robbery of Kim Kardashian West.
Kim Kardashian was on that uneventful day robbed at gunpoint inside her room by men disguised as police officers.
The men tied up the reality star and locked her inside the bathroom before making off with cash and jewelry estimated to be worth about $10 million.
French officials have confirmed that the group of robbers were arrested thanks to DNA evidence left at the crime scene by one of the suspects.
The suspects were said to have been surveilled for a period of time before the police carried out an operation that started at 6 a.m. on Monday to arrest them.
Suspects were picked up in Paris as well as the eastern suburbs of Raincy and Vincenne. Another suspect was traced to Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes, south of France, where he was also arrested.
Police revealed that the suspects would be held for at least 96 hours before deciding on whether to charge them or to let them go.
The story of the gang’s arrest comes a few days after Kim Kardashian West publicly spoke about the incident for the first time.
The starlet broke her silence on the robbery in a teaser for her family’s famed reality show – Keeping Up With The Kardashians. She was seen telling two of her sisters what her thoughts were at the time of the robbery:
“They’re going to shoot me in the back. “There’s no way out. It makes me so upset to think about it,” Kim said.
Kim has meanwhile since the incident not been seen wearing very expensive jewelry in public.
Investigations into the jewelry heist is ongoing by the French police which is believed to be an inside job according to an unidentified source.
The source said the police believe the robbers were tipped off to Kim’s procedures and itinerary to know when to strike.
