Machakos County Assembly was on Wednesday thrown into chaos as Governor Alfred Mutua’s impeachment motion was tabled.
Members of the county assembly are trying to impeach the Governor for allegedly misappropriating county funds, breaching the constitution and county government act.
Forty-six out of the Forty-nine MCAs in the assembly are said to be backing the motion which is being moved by Ndalani Ward Rep Stephen Muthuka.
The chaos started began when Tom Lussa, a former Makueni County Executive Member and strong Mutua ally was roughed up by other MCAs.
The sergeant-at-arms had to whisk Mr Lussa out of the Machakos County Assembly as arguments ensued and proceedings stopped.
Stephen Muthoka had called foul yesterday, November 22, saying the governor was employing diversion tactics to prevent the bill from passing.
He alleged that Mutua sponsored trips for some MCAs to Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda which left several seats in the assembly unoccupied during the session.
Governor Mutua was absent during proceedings to answer any allegation but was represented by his lawyer, Wilfred Nyamu.
He was reportedly inspecting development projects in Kangundo with visiting Kericho Governor, Paul Chepkwony.
Dr Mutua has in the past denied any allegations of fraud or misappropriation of funds against him. He maintains his innocence, saying the allegations came about because he refused to fund the campaigns for the MCAs who are using impeachment threats to blackmail him.
Mr Muthuka still remains confident the Machakos County Assembly will impeach Alfred Mutua after the dust settles from the ongoing drama.
