A man in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County on Tuesday allegedly chopped off his 5-year-old nephew’s genitals.
The incident occurred in Matasenyi village when a man who is said to be mentally ill, reportedly attacked his nephew who he was left in the company of after he returned home from school that evening.
Wundanyi OCPD Benjamin Muhia told reporters that the suspect cut-off his nephew’s genitals moments after he arrived home from school.
“The suspect allegedly picked up a knife and chopped off the minor’s genital without a valid reason.”
He added that the suspect fled the scene afterward but was frogmarched to the police station later on by angry villagers who had beaten him up.
“The suspect was senselessly beaten by the angry mob before being taken to the station. Police took him to a private hospital in Wundanyi where he was admitted in critical condition. We shall take him to court once he is released.”
OCPD Muhia then went on to shed more light on the situation. He revealed that the minor lives with his uncle and his grandmother. The boy’s grandmother had reportedly gone to the market when the incident happened.
Nominated MCA Mary Mngola, who rushed the boy to the hospital confirmed the police’s information and added that the boy was attacked with a kitchen knife.
“The boy stays with his grandmother and uncles. The grandmother was at the market when the incident occurred. Normally, when the child comes back from school it is the uncle who changes his clothes,” she said.
The ward representative said the victim’s cousins raised the alarm when they saw the uncle attacking him.
“When his elder brother arrived, the suspect had already chopped off the boy’s private parts and changed his clothes.”
The boy is currently nursing injuries at Nairobi Women’s Hospital with the chopped off piece not yet recovered.
“Due to the suspect’s unsound mind status, he could not remember where he had placed the chopped part,” the OCPD said.
