Be it war monuments or those dedicated to peace, inscribing a person’s name to any good work indicates respects and good record. They are proof that certain people have played outstanding and unique roles that have inspired or influenced history in one way or the other.
That’s why Mama Kenyatta, the mother of president Kenyatta, has been found worthy to be accorded such respect. The country is going to name a new university that is set to be built starting next week on 10 acres of land in Gatundu South after her.
The Uni is another campus branch of Moi University and is to constructed at a cost of KSh 1.39 billion. The university is to start with three programs including Bachelors in Education, Business Management, and Tourism & Hospitality studies.
Richard Mibey, the Vice Chancellor of Moi University, said the new campus will admit at least 200 students by September due to limited space and facilities.
The school however plans to set up more structures and facilities by next year so as to cater to about 1000-2000 students, the Chancellor added.
The students will be accommodated in various buildings in the nearby town.
Mibey also urged the locals in the constituency to dispose their land to the university so that the institution can become a complete campus with as more than 50 acres as is needed for a university.
A Ministry of Works project manager who spoke to the media said the construction will be fully completed in two years. Nicholas Mutua, the project manager, said:
“We are ready to start the project, the contractor is on site and we are only waiting for an official handing over which will be in a week’s time at the latest.”
Mama Ngina Kenyatta has already been named after several public institutions, as well as roads.
