Rowan Sebastian Atkinson – beloved comedian, screenwriter, star of movies “Mr. Bean” and “Jonny English” turned 62 today.
Looking at the successful career of the world’s most favorite comedian on his birthday, Rowan was born on January 6, 1955, in Consett, County Durham, England. He was the youngest of the four children of Mr. Eric Atkinson.
He is well known for playing the character Mr. Bean in the very successful 1997 comedy drama “Bean” and “Captain Edmund Blackadder in BBC sitcom “Blackadder”.
He started his career during his university days and in 1976 during Edinburgh Festival Fringe he got his first national attention. Then he was part of Revue group of the Experimental Theatre Club (ETC) and Oxford University Dramatic Society (OUDS).
He continued his career with BBC Radio in 1978 where he starred in a comedy, The Atkinson People.
The British star started his television career with BBC’s sketch comedy show ” Not The Nine O’Clock News” (from 1979 – 1982) for which he received British Academy Television Award for best entertainment performance.
Throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Rowan made a big name for himself as a good comedian. He has become so popular and influential that made The Observer vote him amongst the 50 funniest actors in British Comedy.
MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN
Rowan Atkinson a.k.a. Mr. Bean married Sunetra Sastry in 1990 and they have two children, Ben and Lily. The couple first met in the 1980s when she was working as a make-up artist with the BBC.
They split in 2014 and was divorced on November 10, 2015. Atkinson has been in a relationship with Louise Ford since 2014.
Rowan has received birthday honors from Britain. In 2013, during his birthday celebration, he was appointed the commander of the order of British empire.
The legend has featured in many films, television shows, and comedy films.
