Police officers on Monday arrested a fake doctor who had never attended medical school but was able to practice for over two years.

He had been invited there by detectives who made him think he was going to renew his ”permanent” medical licence.

Prosecutors are looking to charge the fake doctor with forgery of medical documents.

Investigations into Mr Melly’s history arose after colleagues who interacted with him in surgery or otherwise began to question his training and could not find possible classmates of the man.

Reports of the fake doctor got to the medical board who then launched an investigation into his credentials and history.

When questioned, the fake doctor told the board that he had been a student at the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2014.

The University of Nairobi has however denied these claims in a letter to the medical board saying that Ronald Kiprotich Melly was never trained at the institution.

The plot twists here because records at the Ministry of Health for some reason show that Mr Melly supposedly graduated in 2013 from UoN with a degree in medicine.

The temporary internship licence the fake doctor used at Kendu Mission Adventist Hospital indicates he qualified for attachment in 2015 meaning that he graduated two years after his internship posting.

Kendu Mission Adventist Hospital have also written to the Kenya medical saying Melly did not complete his internship and did not merit employment.

The fake doctor produced signed forged documents showing he had completed the internship and used that to get employment.

Mr Melly went on to rise rapidly through the ranks from an intern to becoming a medical superintendent at Meteitei Sub-County Hospital in Nandi in just two years.
