President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday hosted the Kenyan 7s team at the State House where he gave bounties to the players with KSh 10 million for winning the world rugby title for the first time.
The ceremony, which celebrated the historical win of Singapore Rugby Sevens series cup was filled with merriment. President Uhuru Kenyatta praised the Sevens team again, but this time, it was more personally.
Handing over KSh 10 million cash prize to the team, the president said:
“Greatly honoured to fete our Shujaas the Kenya Sevens team at State House. The team has done Kenya proud and I’m happy to be able to congratulate them in person. Thank you for carrying the day and leading our country to glory,”said the president in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario revealed ahead of time, that the government would give the team a sum of KSh 2 million to settle players’ allowances. Besides the present, the team enjoyed some uniquely amazing time with Uhuru on the red carpet at State House.

Then, the Kenya 7s team maintained and increased the score until they succeeded in lifting their first ever Main Cup title after stunning champions Fiji 30-7 in the final Singapore tournament at the eighth round of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
