Police in Nyeri town have nabbed two hardened criminals including a pregnant woman on Thursday.
The woman who is with child, was caught alongside her partner, possessing a gun.
The two were caught in a Nanyuki-bound matatu at a terminus in Nyeri attempting to flee from the police.
The suspects identified as Vanessa Wambui alias Tisho and Alex Mathenge had Ceska pistol with five rounds of ammunition when they were caught.
Also, the police found that the duo had already spent 10 rounds in previous robberies.
They were seen in a separate terminus in Nyeri town where they boarded a matatu. They later alighted, abandoning their luggage after spotted police officers patrolling the area.
Police, however, noticed the suspicious suspects who have been on the police watch list following reports of a couple behaving suspiciously.
Witnesses revealed that the two were restless inside the bus. They claimed that the woman was carrying a leso full of clothes while her boyfriend kept coming down from the vehicle to supervise the surroundings.
One witness said they picked the back seat and the woman sat on her handbag, which was strange.
Area OCPD, Masai Makau said the woman seems harmless but she is the most notorious of all criminals in the town.
The area OCPD suggested:
“She does not appear to be a criminal but she is one of the most feared. There is a likelihood that many more women have been inducted into criminal gangs since physical appearance does not give away a criminal easily.”
Police also said the couple has been accused of a string of reported violent robberies in the town.
