Somalia Al-Shabab: US Drone Strike Targets Militant Chief

A fresh drone strike in Somalia against Al-Shabaab targets militant chief. The attack carried out by the US military has reportedly targeted a vehicle carrying three Al-Shabaab militants.

According to a Pentagon spokesman who mentioned the main target as Hassan Ali Dhoore, the chief is accused of organising recent bomb attacks in which US personnel were murdered.

The US had been monitoring Dhoore, a member of the militant group’s security and intelligence wing. The terror chief was targeted for leading some horrible attacks against civilians. He was involved in planning attacks in Mogadishu for some time.

Though the US officials said they are are still looking into the general result of the strike which happened near Jilib – which is close to the border with Kenya –  Hassan Ali Dhoore is suspected to have been killed along with other two Al-Shabaab fighters.

Spokesman Peter Cook said:

He had overseen attacks on Mogadishu airport and a hotel as well as a targeted assassination that killed at least three US citizens, one a Somali MP with dual citizenship.Removing Dhoore from the battlefield would be a significant blow to al-Shabab’s operational planning and ability to conduct attacks.”

This is not the first time the US has carried out an attack against the group with intelligent precision.
Last month, the troops have carried out an airstrike that killed more than hundred of militant Islamist group al-Shabaab in Somalia, set to pass out from training camp to carry out brutal attack.

Thereafter came the raid by masked commandos that took Somalia’s militant Islamist group al-Shabaab unaware in its base, which prompted the terror group to start seizing suspected spies.

The militant group has also carried out attacks in neighbouring Kenya and Uganda, which both contribute troops to an African Union force in Somalia. Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda affiliate, is waging an armed insurgency in Somalia to create its Islamic caliphate.

The group has been threatening to carry out deadlier attacks against its enemy, though it has been really unnerved by consistent attacks, carried out with precision, lately.
