Three suspected robbers were gunned down outside Barclays bank, Westlands branch in Nairobi, yesterday.
A witness said police chased after the suspected thugs from James Gichuru road where they had tried to attack a businesswoman on the road.
The officers on manhunt aimed at one of the robbers at Shell Petrol station opposite Sankara hotel.
police say the sound of gunshots spread panic around the area near the hotel, causing the robbers’ Toyota Fielder car to plunge into a lorry outside the bank.
Three of the robbers were shot while the fourth suspect is still at large after he escaped on foot.
Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno who said that the police followed the robbers also said the suspects had planned to rob a bank.
The police chief also told the media that the suspected robbers have been in police radar following their involvement in a good number of robbery incidences in Westlands and Parkland areas.
The operation was led by the officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit and supported by Flying Squad officers.
Police officers also retrieved a firearm in Westlands, Nairobi, on Friday.
This is not the first time this kind of incident has happened in the area. Last year, some suspected thugs were felled after they were reportedly busted by police stealing a car.
Also, four suspected robbers were shot dead by police along Nairobi’s Thika Superhighway where they were caught sharing a loot they had stolen.
The gangsters said to be running their operations using a motorbike, had allegedly attacked and robbed several motorists on the highway.
