As valentine’s day is in a few days, a couple who lost contact for over 70 years receives an amazingly striking valentine gift of having each other by themselves.
It all started when an American WWII veteran jetted 16,000 kilometres to Australia from the US to be reunited with the woman he met and fell in love with during the war after more than 70 years.
This is the first moment Norwood Thomas and Joyce Morris sit next to each other in 70 years.
Norwood Thomas, 93, gave his long-lost love, Joyce Morris, 88, a big hug after he arrived from the United States.
The sweethearts met in London when Morris’ smile drew the attention of Thomas shortly before the 1944 invasion of Normandy. Thomas, a former U.S. military paratrooper, told the media that above all, Morris’ smile stole his heart.
According to him
This young lady had a smile that would melt you, and of course I was melted, and it very rapidly developed into something from attraction to a very strong affection.
Thomas was later deployed to a different location during the invasion. The couple kept contact through letters until 1945 when Thomas asked Morris to move to the U.S. to marry him.
Sadly, the then 17-year-old Morris somehow misunderstood and thought the 21-year-old Thomas had met someone else. She stopped writing.
The pair went on to couple with other people.
Eventually, Thomas wife left this earth and Morris divorced her husband of 30 years. In 2015, she begged her son to help her reconnect with her long-lost war sweetheart. Fortunately, his son got him on Skype and the two had a sweet chat for the first time.
Crossing each other’s path very quickly, plans to get the two see each other again went viral on the internet and fans of their story desired for the reunion possible, providing funds for it.
Thomas said after landing in Sydney on Wednesday to visit Morris
This is about the most wonderful thing that could have happened. It was a nice feeling to see this woman who I hadn’t seen in 70 years.
Morris and Thomas are going to be together in the next two weeks. They might start from where they stopped judging by how deeply happy and in love they appear.
We’re going to have a wonderful fortnight. added Morris.
